Beesley plans new faces for Railway

New Harrogate Railway player/manager Paul Beesley plans to add players to his inherited squad, but not until after the weekend.

Beesley is the only new face in the side that will travel to Barton Town Old Boys tomorrow. The former Scarborough Athletic and Harrogate Town was named as Lee Ashforth’s replacement last night.

“When a new manager comes in it is because the team is not performing to the best of its abilities,” Beesley said.

“I am looking to bring players in. I do want to be fair to the current lads and I said to them at training that it is a clean slate.

“We will go on Saturday with no new signings, apart from possibly myself. There will be players coming in. It does need a few, I think.”

The appointment of Beesley also ensures that Railway’s special relationship with neighbours Harrogate Town remains intact.

The solid link was established under Billy Miller and then continued by Ashforth. It has seen a variety of players dual-registered with both clubs. In most recent times, Town’s young starlets have been given game-time at Station View.

Beesley will continue the relationship and he has already sought advice from Simon Weaver.

“I think I have had two spells at Harrogate Town, two spells at Harrogate Rallway and I still have great links with Simon Weaver who I still call gaffer,” he added.

“I have a lot of respect for him. I also have close links with Paul Thirlwell the under 21s manager and I may be looking to bring one or two in from that team.

“I actually met with Simon today and I got some advice from him and I look forward to hopefully working closely with them.

“I’m sure it will be beneficial to Harrogate Railway as we may get some of their players and beneficial to Harrogate Town as their players will get experience at a decent level.”
