Ossett Town celebrated a solid derby victory over Tadcaster Albion at Ingfield.

First half goals from Ashley Jackson and Anthony Mackie put Ossett in the driving seat at half-time.

Jason Mycoe fired in a screamer with four minutes to go to give Tadcaster hope.

But Ossett sealed the victory from the penalty spot in injury time as captain Alex Peterson kept his cool to stroke down the middle.

Conor Sellars came close to giving The Brewers the lead in spectacular fashion after fourteen minutes. The lively attacker was picked out as he darted into the box, chested and pulled off an impressive bicycle kick but Overton held well.

Devonte Morton was looking sharp for the home side putting his weight about and driving at Taddy’s defence. He thought he had a glorious chance to open the scoring after sixteen minutes but Andy Milne recovered with a perfectly timed challenge.

The home side looked the more threatening as they kicked down the slope in the first half and incidentally they broke the deadlock on the 28th minute. Steven Ridley’s clipped free-kick was flicked on by Peterson and prodded home at the back post by Jackson.

Taddy did respond positively after going behind with Tom Corner and Jono Greening both having shots at goal, but failing to test Leigh Overton nonetheless.

But things went from bad to worse for Billy Miller’s side as Ossett doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Michael Ingham rose high to punch clear but looked to have been impeded somewhat. Nevertheless no foul was given and Mackie nodded over the stopper.

The Brewers needed to respond in the second half and they did to an extent as they pushed Town deeper and deeper.

The visitors came close to pulling a goal back but Tom Corner saw his glancing head drop inches wide of the mark.

With The Brewers pushing hard for a breakthrough, this left space at the other end for Ossett to all but secure the three points.

And it was almost three just after the hour mark but defender Tyrone Gay volleyed narrowly wide.

Michael Ingham had to stay concentrated in the Taddy goal as Xander McBurnie’s curling effort had to be tipped over.

Jimmy Beadle entered the contest with time running out and he spurned a good chance with eight minutes to go as he dragged a shot wide.

Two minutes later however and The Brewers did pull a goal back to set up a nervy finale, for both sides.

Jason Mycoe drove forward into a plethora of space and blasted in a beauty from 25 yards.

But in the dying seconds Ossett Town secured the victory from the penalty spot with captain Peterson coolly firing straight down the middle.
