Resurgent Selby Town are up to third after a five-goal victory and a fifth consecutive clean sheet.

Town went into the game, against their old manager Leon Sewell’s side, looking to extend a seven game unbeaten run. The visitors came from Humberside in a rich vein of form having won each of their last four games

The expectant crowd had to wait less than a minute to see recent signing Calum Ward open his Robins goal scoring account as the home side attacked from the off. The Robins continued to press against a weak defence and Liam Flanagan found himself on the end of a Wayne Brook cross after a left wing attack from James Arnold, to head the home side into a 2-0 lead on 16 minutes.

The Robins pressed right from the back and Jason Crisp was denied just before the half hour mark as Westella struggled to gain any possession, Gary Lumley displayed some committed defence as  Ramsey looked to attack from deep inside Westella territory.  The visitors were relieved to hear the half time whistle as they struggled to deal with a positive Robins passing display- still room for improvement from Town who would look to push on in the second half.

Westella started the second half more brightly and had more possession but very few goal scoring opportunities, Peter Lawrie dealing well with any Westella chances. Tom Hogg scored to extend the lead on the hour mark, the initial run down the left from young Arnold, Flanagan miscued across the goal face and Hogg tapped in from close range in front of the Robins faithful.

Ward left the field after an improved performance making way for target man Scott Jones who applied the pressure immediately after his introduction to the game, Brook continued to ask questions of the Westella side with his best showing in the past few games.

Jones had a chance to make it four on 75 minutes and should have capitalised on the keeper’s mistake, but missed from close range after great supply from Crisp who put in a solid display.

The relentless pressure paid off in the final minutes as Crisp turned provider for Arnold who scored his first goal for the Robins.

Jones finished the rout in the final minute after Flanagan caused havoc down the left.
