Red hot Harrison Biggins is reaping the rewards of staying with Stocksbridge Park Steels, according to Chris Hilton.

Young players can be notorious for jumping ship at the sight of a more money, but not Biggins, the son of former Barnsley striker Wayne, who has turned down offers from numerous clubs over the past two-and-half-years.

He has focussed on his development as a player by playing week-in-week-out and it has paid off as he is now one of the most in-form midfielders in the Division.

“We have had Harrison since he got released by Barnsley when he was just short of 18,” Hilton told Non League Yorkshire.

“He’s only 20 now and he’s been fantastic. He was one of the lowest paid players when he first came and he’s just developed and developed.

“We have worked on him and this is his third season. He’s getting everyone talking about the goals he’s scoring, but he’s doing an excellent all-round job for the team.

“He’s maturing as a player. He’s still got a lot to learn, but he has a bright future.

“Clubs have tracked in the last couple of years with seven day approaches, but he feels this is the right place to develop at this moment in time.

“You see young players moving from club to club all the time because of money and they will learn from their own mistakes.

“You would like to see them look at players like Harrison and see the benefit of staying put and developing.

“Some jump a Division or two too early and end up sitting on a bench for a season which is no good for their development.”
