Frickley Athletic opened up a six-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone after being victorious in the must-win clash with fourth-bottom Sutton Coldfield.

Curtly Martin-Wyatt and debutant Wade Fairhurst struck in the crunch match with the team directly below them in the table.

Frickley also have the luxury of two games-in-hand which could put them on the periphery of safety.

New Frickley cult hero Martin-Wyatt, who scored a hat-trick on his debut last month, raised the roof at Westfield Lane with a 25-yard blast to open the scoring.

Rhys Meynell went close to scoring Frickley’s second goal with a header before Fairhurst fired Martin-Wyatt’s flick-on home.

Goalkeeper Seb Malkowski did have to make the occasional save, but the main thing is the three points.

The Team

Frickley Athletic: Malkowski, Stohrer, Parkinson, Waters, Lawrence, Meynell (captain), Mangham, Valentine, Martin-Wyatt, Fairhurst, Williams. Subs: Gooda, Johnson, Pugh, Burton, Diggles.
