Wafula’s screamer puts Ducks in control

Evo Stik Division One South

Shaw Lane AFC 1-0 Witton Albion

Jono Wafula scored the winner for Shaw Lane to put them in control of their own destiny

Jono Wafula’s thunderbolt has put Shaw Lane AFC in the driving seat to win the title with three games to go.

Wafula’s incredible strike came one minute into the second half. It leaves Shaw Lane probably only needing two wins from their final three matches to win the crown because of their superior goals difference.

An incredible attendance of 608 people saw the fixture which failed to live up to the hype in the first half.

It did not matter for Shaw Lane though. Wafula lit the contest up with a sensational strike from a difficult angle.

Shaw Lane defended extremely well, limiting Witton’s ability to fashion out chances, ensuring the important victory was theirs.

The Team

Shaw Lane AFC: Stewart, Austin, Radford, Lenighan, Qualter, Byrne, Harris, Allott, Abadaki, Wafula, Kelvin Lugsden. Subs: Istead, Zaniewski, Kieron Lugsden, Algar, Gregory.

  1. First game I’ve attended having become a fan through Alex Byrne, good match to watch solely because the lads dug in and got a result against a team with the players to turn it around, hard fought but welll deserved win.
