Garforth and Staveley play out draw

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Garforth Town 0-0 Staveley Miners Welfare

Lee Turner heads clear for Garforth

Garforth Town halted a run of three defeats in the second match of the 2017 NCEL Easter GroundHop.

It wasn’t the spectacle that the neutral groundhoppers were hoping to see. The fact that both sides have nothing to play for was plain to see, but nobody could fault the effort on show during the 11am Good Friday fixture though.

Garforth, as a club, were the most pleased as the large crowd of 324 certainly helps to swell the coffers at the J.S White Community Stadium – on a day that their programme editor Chris Mather’s life was celebrated following his sad passing earlier this week.

Chances-wise, there were few and far between. Big and strong Staveley always looked dangerous from set-pieces and there were a few close shaves for Garforth.

Garforth came inches away from scoring a dramatic late winner when fans’ favourite Mark Simpson and Sean Hunter were denied in quick succession.

Refereeing the draw was like a leisurely walk in the park for Mr Walker

The game was a walk in the park for Mr Walker, an excellent Evo Stik and NCEL official.
