Windass aims for big turnout for Dan

Dean Windass hopes a lot of money will be raised when a Shaw Lane X1 and the Hull City ex-players team face each other on Sunday to raise funds for the Daniel Wilkinson Foundation.

City ambassador Windass has helped organise the match, which is being held at Blackburn Leisure Sports & Social Club near Hull.

Windass was a player at Hull when Wilkinson was an apprentice at the club.

Wilkinson tragically passed away after collapsing on the pitch during an Integro League Cup tie at Brighouse Town in September.

Evo Stik Division One South champions Shaw Lane have since named one of their stands after him and are helping to raise £50,000 for the Foundation which is helping to fund heart screenings, provision of defribillators and CPR training for grassroots sports teams.

A number of ex-Hull players will feature, while Shaw Lane will have their first teamers playing plus the likes of Joe Thornton and one or two others who have left the club since Dan’s passing.

Brighouse manager Paul Quinn and his assistant Lee Ashforth will also play in the game, alongside four of Wilkinson’s close friends. Elliott has promised to field a “strong side”.
