New Worsbrough Bridge midfielder Matty Thompson

There is good news for Worsbrough Bridge as Jack Mawson is staying and former Yorkshire Amateur midfielder Matty Thompson is joining.

Mawson pledging his future to Park Road is a huge boost as he was influential in Worsbrough’s superb run of form which guided them away from relegation.

Thompson, who finished the season as one of the few senior players left at Nostell, is the son of Brighouse Town coach David and he used to play for new Worsbrough assistant boss Rick Addy at the Ammers.

Josh Wright said: “We have come to an agreement to sign Matty Thompson. For me Matty could have easily played in any of the top ten sides.

“He has great ability on the ball and is a good all-round footballer.

“Just as important is that we have managed to keep hold of Jack Mawson who has also agreed to stay. Jack was instrumental in keeping us up and keeping hold of him is huge.

“Hopefully this shows the level of player we are wanting to bring in. There will be six or seven new players to come in by the start of the season. Myself, Rick and Deano (Dean Sidebottom) have player targets and we are confident we can get them in.”
