The Showman: Glasshoughton Welfare forward Ryan Poskitt

Many Glasshoughton fans would say their star summer signing Connor Rollinson, but it will surprise a lot of people that Non League Yorkshire has chosen ‘The Showman’ Ryan Poskitt as its one to watch for Glasshoughton.

The Showman’s influence extends beyond his superb playing performances. Even when he is injured, his presence in the stands inspires Glasshoughton to great things.

Interview

Glasshoughton Welfare joint manager Darren Holmes

Darren Holmes has jokingly said he hopes Non League Yorkshire’s prediction for Glasshoughton Welfare this season will inspire his and Lee Vigars’ side again.

Holmes, infamously or memorably (depending on your viewpoint) ended his team-talk at the first game of last season at Hall Road Rangers with the line, “let’s prove that James Grayson wrong” following a bottom half prediction.

His team did lose 3-2 that day, but they went onto finish 11th.

“What we want Non League Yorkshire to do is tip us for a position where we can prove you wrong again,” Holmes said.

“We can use that all season and push for a good finish.

“Joking aside, last season was always about steadying the ship, but we did really well.

“We should have finished in the top eight and we were a little disappointed to finish 11th.

“We want to improve on last year. Eleventh will be our target initially and then we’ll see where we go.”
