Ossett Town striker Kai Hancock in battle with Bradford (Park Avenue)’s Matt Hill

Kai Hancock’s first half strike proved pivotal as Ossett Town began the new season in positive fashion with a 2-1 victory at Prescot Cables.

It was a great start for their fantastic young manager Grant Black and his charges.

The first half could not have gone much better as popular Ash Jackson opened the scoring from the penalty spot and then former Athersley Rec striker Hancock netted on his Evo Stik debut.

Prescot pulled a goal back deep into second half injury-time.

Karl Rose’s second tenure at Goole AFC got off to a bad start as his side were well-beaten by Glossop North End in a 3-0 defeat.

Scarborough Athletic and Hyde United finished goal-less.

Tadcaster Albion were defeated by a late free kick in the 2-1 loss at Ramsbottom United.

A draw had been on the cards after Tom Corner had cancelled out Jerome Wright’s opener for Ramsbottom.

The season did not begin in the way that Ossett Albion as they lost 3-0 at home to Colwyn Bay.
