Action from Pickering Town 1-2 Clitheroe

Pickering Town made Evo Stik side Clitheroe work right up until the death in the Preliminary Round tie.

It was a very good effort in the end, considering the disastrous start that they made to the game. After just four minutes, the danger man Sefton Gonzales powered his way down the left before squaring the ball to give Oliver Crankshaw and easy finish and Clitheroe the lead.

George Bissett had Pickering’s best first half chance. He found some great space, but could only shoot straight at the Clitheroe goalkeeper.

The Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side looked dead and buried on the hour mark after Adam Bolton broke clear to add the second goal for Clitheroe.

However, Pickering suddenly galvanised themselves and had their higher league opponents rattled for a good spell. Ryan Blott fired Pickering back into it with a tremendous long range strike

There was also the stereotypical hands on head moment when the unmarked Russ Parker’s header from just a few yards away from goal went wide. Most of the crowd thought he had equalised.

Clitheroe did get a chance to kill Pickering totally off in stoppage time, but Pickering goalkeeper Harry Andrews saved the penalty from Gonzales.
