FA Vase
Burscough 6-0 Armthorpe Welfare
A poor display from Armthorpe Welfare saw Burscough run out comfortable winners in the second qualifying round tie.
Welfare started the game well, forcing a series of early corners before Darren Mansaram saw his 30 yard shot clear the bar in the 13th minute.
Craig Morley got his head to a deep free kick by Adam Stevens to force Louis McCarthy into a diving save.
Lee Healey put a speculative 25 yard shot well over the bar for Burscough on 17 minutes before Welfare missed a golden opportunity to take the lead on 20 minutes. A great cross from the right by picked out Wayne Brook 6 yards out at the near post but his header was straight at McCarthy.
The miss proved costly as less than a minute later Peter Henerty fired an angled shot past Stevens to give Burscough the lead and the game changed completely.
Six minutes later it was 2-0 when Healey latched on to a long clearance to break clear through the middle, head the ball past the advancing Stevens and rolled the ball into an empty net.
Burscough went close again on 40 minutes when a 20 yard shot from Adam Gilchrist flicked off Chris Bowen and flew inches wide.
Jack Waldron replaced Steve Garner at half time but the home side kept up the pressure. On 49 minutes Prince Ekpolo saw his angled shot collected by Stevens at the second attempt and Ekpolo shot wide at the back post from close range on 58 mins. This came just after Welfare lost Chris Gowen through injury with Chris Simpkins replacing him.
A good save from Stevens denied Gilchrist on 65 minutes but on 70 minutes Burscough extended their lead when a cross from the Burscough right left the unmarked Henerty with a tap in.
A great run by Alexander Parkes saw the left back lash a strong shot past Stevens two minutes later whilst another ball across the box, this time from the left, saw Healey score into an empty net to make it 5-0.
Mansaram had a 20 yard shot parried by McCarthy on 79 minutes but on 84 minutes Burscough wrapped up a comprehensive win when Gilchrist lashed a shot past Stevens from just inside the box following a cross from the right.
