Pontefract defeat Litherland in Vase

FA Vase

Pontefract Collieries striker Vaughan Redford

Pontefract Collieries shrugged off Litherland REMYCA to reach the FA Vase second round for the first time since 2003.

The Colls won 3-1 in a game that saw Litherland reduced to nine men after a scuffle. Pontefract’s Scott Brown was also sent off.

It was a good affair up until that point, with Ponte leading 2-0 at the half way mark thanks to a penalty from Eli Hey and a Vaughan Redford goal.

Hey’s second goal seemed to wrapped the game up before Joel Douglas hit a late consolation for REMYCA.

Pickering Town went down 4-3 in an epic home battle with Newcastle Benfield. The Pikes led 2-0 at one point through Russ Parker and Danny Gray. Joe Danby then made it 3-2, but Paul Brayson’s hat-trick took it to extra-time where Benfield were able to win it.

AFC Emley lost 6-2 at home to Thornaby. Matty Waller got both their goals.
