Farsley striker James Walshaw has joined Scarborough, to play under his mentor Steve Kittrick

James Walshaw, the greatest West Yorkshire-based Non League striker in recent memory, has been reunited with his mentor Steve Kittrick at Scarborough Athletic.

Walshaw has left Farsley Celtic to link up with Kittrick, the man who first gave him his chance at Ossett Town over ten years ago.

The pair later worked together at Guiseley where Walshaw’s goals fired the Lions to the Conference North in 2010.

Walshaw scored during his Seadogs debut in the 1-1 draw with Trafford. The news will delight Seadogs fan as Walshaw scored over 50 goals last season to fire Farsley to promotion.

Trevor Bull, chairman of Scarborough Athletic said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of a proven striker who has an excellent goal scoring record at this level and in the leagues above.

“Like the recent signing of James Knowles, this signing is the result of a calculated and careful team building process that started with the manager identifying targets that would improve our squad in key positions.

“Following our success in the FA Cup this season, the directors took the decision to invest some of the proceeds to ensure that we have a squad capable of pushing on for promotion and challenging at the top of the division for the remainder of the season.

“We will continue to work closely with Steve Kittrick to achieve our goals on the pitch whilst pushing forward with our plans to improve facilities for our loyal supporters at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

“We want to welcome James to our club and our community.  He has expressed his desire to be part of what we are trying to achieve by doing what he does best, scoring goals.  We look forward to sharing many celebrations with him and our fans.”

  1. I think Wally made his debut for Ossett Town under Gary Brook, he was certainly an established first team player under Steve Richards before Kittrick took over during the 2005-06 season.
