Liam Radford’s last minute snatched three points for Armthorpe Welfare in the feisty derby clash with Rossington Main.

It was quite some finish to a game which had began disastrously for Mike Carmody’s side.

It took just over one minute for Rossington to make their mark on the game, Rossington’s Jason Stokes played in a nice cross which was headed into the back of the net by Andy McCreadie to give Rossington an early 1-0 lead.

Fourteen minutes in it was 2-0 to Rossington, a free kick was crossed into the box by Brad Billam and McCreadie nodded it into the back of the net unmarked in the centre of the goal.

It took twenty-eight minutes for Welfare to register their first meaningful shot of the game, a corner into the box by Chris Simpkins was cleared by the keeper but only as far as Michael Collins who’s shot went just wide.

One minute after the yellow card Mo Selassie made it 2-1 with a well taken goal from 20 yards out after the ball was played into him via a deflection from Sam Kay, Selassie struck it first time and it nestled into the bottom corner.

Welfare were awarded a massive chance to draw the game level in the fifty ninth minute. Simpkins had his shot from distance saved by the keeper, but he couldn’t keep hold of it, Gary Collier latched onto the ball and was taken out by the keeper. Radford confidently smashed the ball down the middle from the penalty spot to make the game 2-2 with just over thirty minutes left.

Five minutes after making it 2-2, Radford had another chance to add to his tally as he raced through on goal but could only direct his shot straight at the keeper.

Craig Aspinall then headed over from close range following a dangerous cross from Mo Selassie on the right as Welfare looked the more likely to win the game.

Three minutes from time saw Radford grab his second of the game and put Welfare 3-2 up. James Arnold played a nicely timed pass through to Radford who slotted it past the Rossington keeper who could only look on as the ball nestled into the back of the net.
