John Reed has left Shaw Lane after two years to join Gainsborough

John Reed has left his role as assistant manager of Shaw Lane AFC to become former Farsley Celtic manager Lee Sinnott’s number two at Gainsborough Trinity.

Sinnott, who led Farsley on an unprecedented and magical journey from the old NPL Division One to the National League Premier between 2003 and 2007, was named as the new manager of Gainsborough this week.

Reed has been with Shaw Lane since February 2016 and he stayed on to help Paul Quinn after Craig Elliott moved to Boston United.

Reed said: “It’s been a tremendous three years at the club. There are so many nice people – too many to mention.

“Last year winning the league and the county cup was special as it’s something I’ve only ever done three times.

“I go to pastures new but wish all the very best to everybody at Shaw Lane.”

Reed has enjoyed a very successful Non League career, spanning nearly four decades. He led Bridlington Town to Wembley in the FA Vase in the 1990s, and has won titles with Hatfield Main and Harrogate Town.
