Jason Dodsworth admitted resurgent Nostell Miners Welfare got away with it during the 3-1 win over East Yorkshire Carnegie.

Nostell were hanging on at the death until talisman Jack Owen scored his second goal of the game in the dying seconds to finish their visitors off.

Carnegie should have been blown away by this point, but Nostell wasted a lot of good chances.

“It is another big three points and nice to get back-to-back wins in the league for the second time since we have been here,” Dodsworth told Non League Yorkshire.

“It wasn’t the best performance, but there were terrible conditions out there. We still made hard work of it though because we had complete control on the game at 2-0.

“It is the basic things that they are just not doing right at the minute. It takes time, it will come, but a game like today. We were 2-0 up, it should be done.

“We let them back into the game with a soft penalty and then missed a load of chances to kill the game. It could have come back to bite us and it nearly did when they got that corner in the last minute and the goalkeeper came up for it.

“He probably should have scored and made it two-a-piece. Luckily he didn’t and Jack was able to kill the game.

“It was due to poor decision making as to why we didn’t kill the game off, but I’m just relieved and pleased to get the three points. You look on one hand and say we could have scored ten or eleven goals, but you look on the other and say ‘well we got away with it’. You take it.

“I suppose it does show how far we have come that we are disappointed, despite winning the game. We’ve set the bar high and we expect performances to be up there all the time.”
