The Pontefract Pirates Juniors will lead Glasshoughton Welfare out when the long-awaited ‘Show Your Support For Luce’ game finally takes place at Worsbrough Bridge on Monday night.

The game is being used to raise money for Leukaemia UK and raise awareness of the symptoms of acute myeloid leukaemia – a severe form of the disease that Lucille Rollinson, the mother of Glasshoughton’s Connor and Worsbrough’s Calan, has been battling since October.

Glasshoughton chairman Jon Miles has arranged for the Pirates Juniors to lead Glasshoughton out. Connor is one of the Pirates coaches which is a club for adults and children with disabilities and learning difficulties.

The match should have been played in February, but was postponed. An attempt to play the match recently failed after heavy rain.

The warm-up t-shirts (emblazoned with ‘Showing Our Support For Luce’ on) and collection buckets have been in storage since February and are ready to be finally used.

Lots of fantastic raffle prizes have also been donated.

If you are unable to attend the fixture, but have been touched by Lucille’s story and would like to make a donation to Leukaemia UK in her name, you can donate via a JustGiving page set up on the family’s behalf.
