Ammers ease to victory at Glasshoughton

Glasshoughton Welfare 1-5 Yorkshire Amateur

Midfielder Harrison Blakey scored Yorkshire Amateur’s second goal

Yorkshire Amateur continued their perfect start to pre-season with an easy victory at Glasshoughton Welfare.

The promotion-chasing East Leeds outfit had all their stars out playing and goals from Niall Heaton, Harrison Blakey, Aiden Savory, Steve Crawford and Adam Field led them to victory.

A peach of a strike from Glasshoughton captain Adam Walsh reduced the deficit in the final few minutes.

The Ammers were far too good for a Glasshoughton side, full of young trialists and with only a few familiar faces on show such as Aiden Tyas, Craig Tonkinson, young Matt Cunliffe and Walsh. Welfare were also without the unavailable Nathan Perks.

The visitors, in control from the beginning, dominated. By the half-hour mark, three goals had been scored.

A powerful back-post header from Heaton inside five minutes set the tone and prepared the home side for a long night.

Poor defending allowed the second goal to be scored. Ash Flynn was able to launch a hopeful ball back into the penalty area from the left-side of it. No-one tracked midfielder Blakey and he fired home with a low drive from 15-yards.

Former Farsley Celtic forward Savory broke clear when adding the third.

There was no respite for Glasshoughton after the interval. Crawford, signed from West Yorkshire League outfit Beeston St Anthony’s after a prolific goal-scoring spell there, had the easiest of runs from the left and struck gold after cutting inside and shooting from distance.

Glasshoughton would then hit the crossbar in a brief and rare foray forward – minutes before Field pounced from a Ammers corner.

Walsh brought the arrears down to four with five minutes remaining. He could have been mistaken for an experienced and prolific striker when he took the ball down just inside the penalty area and lashed it into the far top corner.
