Welfare captain Hunter joins Worsbrough

Worsbrough have signed Glasshoughton captain Gareth Hunter

Experienced Toolstation NCEL player Gaz Hunter is back at Worsbrough Bridge after ending his almost four-year association with Glasshoughton Welfare.

Hunter was the captain of Glasshoughton, but is back at Park Road under Lee Morris. However, he may not feature at the beginning of the season as he is recovering from a hip problem.

Hunter can play in either defence or midfield. He spent a lot of last season as one of Glasshoughton’s centre-backs – a position he is likely to appear in for Bridge, given the players Worsbrough already have available to them in midfield.

Hunter has also appeared for Pontefract Collieries and Athersley Rec in the NCEL. With Athersley in 2013 he won a Division One runners-up medal.

His time with Glasshoughton does contain lots of happy memories. He was very popular with the club’s supporters and committee because of his committed and never-say-die performances. He was also a crucial part of the team which shocked the league by reaching the Division One play-offs in 2018.

Linking up with Worsbrough again also secures a reunion with his old Pontefract and Glasshoughton team-mates Rob Oldham and Connor Rollinson.
