Concern for injured Campion pair Facey and Day

Campion striker Marcus Day

Campion have been rocked by injuries to key strikers Marcus Day and Danny Facey during the opening day draw at Harrogate Railway.

The pair were carried off in the second half of the Toolstation NCEL Division One clash. Campion are hopeful that Facey will not out too long, but Day could be facing a lay-off as he was forced to go to hospital.

“I can’t really comment on Marcus because I don’t know how he is, but it looks serious to me,” assistant manager Marcus Mitchell told Non League Yorkshire.

“I believe it is a knee problem and it is bad enough for him to have to go to hospital.

“Danny Facey also came off, but to be fair he hasn’t played for over a year (because of injury) so he has to be careful.

“It was a blow to lose them as they’re out goal-scorers and especially considering we were chasing the game.”

Mitchell also admitted that Campion more than deserved their point at Harrogate. The Bradford-based side conceded early through a Joe Jagger header and despite many attempts they could not score past goalkeeper Joe Wilton.

That was until Andy McCreadie popped up with the equaliser in the last minute.

“It is the old cliche, a game of two halves,” he said.

“In the first half they caught us out on the hop and they played really well and passed it really well. They got it through the lines better than we expected.

“They caught us on the break and got their goal. I felt we got back into it for ten minutes, but then they stepped it up again.

“They didn’t create many chances, but I felt they had a lot of the ball and control of the game.

“We went in at half-time, had a chat, ironed a few things out and you saw in the second half that Harrogate didn’t get out of their own half.

“We hit the post a couple of times and the goalkeeper had a made a couple of decent saves. Eventually we got the goal, with a bit of a luck when it has hit the post and fallen to Andy.

“I thought it was going to be one of those days when we couldn’t score as we couldn’t do much more.

“We gave it the whole ten guns, the goalkeeper was making save after save and time was running was out, but eventually luck was on our side.”
