Liam Radford struck the winner as Armthorpe Welfare stunned one of the league’s title favourites North Ferriby.

The former Pontefract Collieries striker pounced on the hour mark in the Toolstation NCEL Division One clash – which erases memories of the midweek defeat to Harrogate Railway.

After a period of pressure, Armthorpe got their goal. Josh Bowkett’s throw in was controlled by Adam Lee on the left hand edge of the box before he turned and beat Eddy Birch and picked out heroic captain Radford who fired past Lewis Excall from 12 yards.

The win meant Mike Carmody did Selby Town a favour as it enabled Christian Fox’s men to overtake Ferriby to reach the top spot with their 5-1 victory at Harrogate Railway.

Selby were leading 4-0 by the 52nd minute through Danny Walker (2), Josh Walker and Chris Jackson. Alex Burton added the fifth late-on before Joe Jagger’s consolation for Railway.
