Knaresborough Town overcame their injury problems to beat Washington 2-1 with second half goals in the FA Vase first qualifying round tie.

Steve Bromley and the club’s new star striker Luke Harrop got the goals for Paul Stansfield’s men. The Manse Lane-based side have had a lot of key players missing recently, and luck didn’t appear to be changing in the warm-up as goalkeeper Sam Lee had to be withdrawn.

Fortunately Dom Smith was on the bench so he took his place.

Knaresborough had enjoyed a lot of chances prior to the experienced frontman Bromley netting on the hour mark with a fine finish.

Washington were then reduced to ten men after a head-butt and Knaresborough made them pay when Harrop went on one of his trademark runs.

Bromley himself was dismissed after a 50/50 challenge with the Washington goalkeeper, with the assistant referee decreeing that the challenge was worthy of a red card.

Washington hit back with five minutes to go, but it was too late to inspire a comeback.

Eccleshill United were well-beaten 4-0 at home by Thornaby, while Maltby Main lost 5-2 at Maine Road. Waide Fairhurst and Anthony Wilson scored.

Alhassane Keita and Andy Horbury scored as Albion Sports won 2-0 at Willington.
