Walton scores hat-trick in last seven minutes for Super ‘Sedge

Liversedge striker Joe Walton

Joe Walton scored a hat-trick in the final seven minutes at AFC Mansfield to secure a 4-2 victory for Liversedge.

The result is a magnificent response to the surprise home defeat to Knaresborough Town in midweek.

‘Sedge made a bright start. Ollie Fearon capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Hugo Warhurst and he went around the goalkeeper to predictably score against his old club.

Warhurst went off injured at half-time and Mansfield soon equalised with their danger man Ross Duggan heading home.

It was all square as the 83rd minute came. That’s when Walton stepped up to the mark. The club stalwart broke through to put ‘Sedge back in front itnially.

With 120 seconds, he had headed home to seemingly settle the game.

Mansfield then pulled a goal back with a simple tap-in from Luke Walker.

The nerves could have jangled, but fortunately Walton sealed his hat-trick from a counter-attack.

Knaresborough won 2-1 at Goole AFC – Rob Youhill and Colin Heath scored.

Maltby Main won 3-2 at Eccleshill United after coming from behind. Eccleshill’s Jonny Irving scored a third minute penalty, but Maltby won it thanks to Jonathan Hill, Gavin King and Aaron Moxam. Nicky Boshell gave Eccleshill late hope.
