Vamplew the hero as Welfare stun fancied Ferriby

Josh Vamplew was the hero as Glasshoughton Welfare stunned promotion hopefuls ten man North Ferriby to move out of the Toolstation Division One bottom two.

Vamplew struck in the second half to down Ferriby, who lost the plot after having Eddy Birch sent off and Lawrence McKay sin-binned.

The victory is testament to the patience and hard work by Darren Holmes and Lee Vigars, who knew it would be a difficult start after losing several key men in the summer.

But slowly but surely the pair have got it right and the outlook with their brave and hard-working team in bright.

Glasshoughton were full value for their win. Twice in the first half they were denied by excellent saves from Ferriby goalkeeper Jordan Douglas.

Vamplew got his goal straight after the interval and it was enough for them as Ferriby went onto conspire to their own downfall.
