Simpson is Marshall’s hero as new Garforth boss gets first win

Mark Simpson was new Garforth Town manager Paul Marshall’s hero

Mark Simpson was the hero as Paul Marshall’s first game as Garforth Town manager and his 921st in management ended in a dramatic victory.

The super-sub scored the winner with just two minutes remaining to secure the Miners a 2-1 comeback victory at Eccleshill United in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

Marshall, the former Tadcaster Albion and Harrogate Railway manager, replaced Rob Hunter in midweek and he was able to end a run of six games without a win at the first attempt.

The script wasn’t entirely followed as Eccleshill took the lead on the hour mark through Jonny Irving.

Garforth were able to hit back ten minutes later through Dan Coupland.

The rest was left to the club’s greatest goal-scorer Simpson.

Aaron Moxam’s early goal was enough for Maltby Main in their 1-0 win at Goole AFC.

Adam Muller, Jerry White, Asa Mitchell and Ben Grech-Brooksbank scored as Thackley won 4-0 at Athersley Rec.

  1. What a feeling when our 2 goals went in , it was a hard match , a good start for Paul Marshall , I think that although Rob has gone he has left him a decent team and squad to work with
