Steels and Pikes face replay, while Ponte throw Glossop out

Pickering Town loan star Sam Cable

Pickering Town and Stocksbridge Park Steels will battle it out again in the FA Trophy in South Yorkshire on Tuesday night after a 1-1 draw at Marsh Lane.

Super Sam Cable, the on-loan Frickley Athletic striker, sparked Pickering into life after just three minutes after lobbing Stocksbridge goalkeeper Edd Hall.

Josh Nodder forced home the equaliser for Stocksbridge on the hour mark. Chris Hilton’s men had to hold their nerve to secure a replay as Reece Fielding was controversially sent off.

Pontefract Collieries threw themselves in the next round of the FA Trophy after cruising past Glossop North End in the 2-0 win at home.

Glossop even had one of their unused substitutes – Joel Mills – sent off after he was caught hurling verbal missiles at the match referee Lee Hible when his side were down and out with 15 minutes left.

Terrible defending from Glossop enabled Connor Smythe to give the Colls an early lead with a low volley and they never looked back.

Glossop only had themselves to blame for the second goal. Instead of getting into position, several players obstructed Jimmy Williams from taking a free kick and blocked his attempted his pass. Normally it would be brought back. But because the ball fell kindly to a Colls player, the home side side broke and Vaughan Redford slotted home from close range.
