Hunter named Welfare assistant

New Glasshoughton Welfare assistant manager Gaz Hunter

Club favourite Gaz Hunter has been named as the new assistant manager of Glasshoughton Welfare.

Hunter, who is out with a long-term injury, returns from Worsbrough to fill a vacancy that was created when Richard Tracey became the manager of Emley AFC in May.

Hunter has had two playing spells with Glasshoughton. He originally joined them during the first week of Simon Houghton and Craig Wilkinson’s reign almost four years ago.

Lee Vigars said: “Absolutely delighted to welcome Gaz back to the club. He was our skipper during the 2017/18 & 2018/19 season and was a real leader on the park.

“What myself and Darren (Holmes) wanted was someone who knows the club, knows the league and can bring experience of playing at this level and above. Gaz has that so we can’t wait to get started.

“He met the lads at training on Tuesday and will be part of the match day management team from Saturday when we entertain Nostell at home. That now completes our management team along with Les Nelson who has done an outstanding job on the recruitment front.”
