NCEL chairman Morrall to retire

Northern Counties East League chairman David Morrall is standing down

Long-serving Toolstation NCEL chairman David Morrall is retiring after neatly 20 years in the role.

Mr Morrall has told the league in writing that he is not seeking re-election when the next AGM is held.

The former Premier League assistant referee joined the league’s management board in 2001 and oversaw sweeping changes to how the NCEL operates. He will be a hard act to follow.

One of his main achievements was securing vital sponsorship from Toolstation which has massively benefited NCEL clubs over the past six years. He also championed several disciplining improving schemes including the 112 day ban rule, the Fair Play Awards and the regulation that means sent off managers cannot watch the remainder of matches.

The league hope to elect a new chairman as soon as possible.

Non League Yorkshire would like to personally thank Dave for his support and encouragement towards the website over the past seven years. He was always on the end of the phone and he helped secure interviews and always took great interest in our Disability Football projects. Although we have laughed about it since, apart from one article/interview which he has described as “f***ing ridiculous”(!) there was never any crossed words. It has been a great pleasure to know you Dave.
