Sam Smith is back ‘home’ at Handsworth

Prodigal son Sam Smith has returned ‘home’ to Handsworth.

The striker was a key member of Russ Eagle’s 2012 title-winning squad. He also scored the winning goal in the unforgettable 4-3 NCEL League Cup final victory over Cleethorpes Town in 2015.

Smith then moved onto Alfreton Town in the National North the same year. In more recent years, he has been playing for Hallam.

Handsworth boss Eagle, who is now assisted by Joe Thornton, has kept nearly all of their players from last season.

The retained list includes Jamie Austin, Alfie Eagle, Leon Howarth, Ehsan Mohammed, Lee Betts, Harry Mitchell and goalkeeper Warren Squires.
