Greenway is Railway’s hero

Harrogate Railway 1-0 Harrogate Town U23s

Harrogate Railway’s hero Kieran Greenway

Kieran Greenway was Harrogate Railway’s hero as Mick O’Connell’s men beat neighbours Harrogate Town u23s to lift the George Smith Memorial Trophy at Station View.

The result continues the progress made Railway during pre-season, despite the string of injuries they have picked up.

Young starlet Greenway curled a long range free kick into the right-hand bottom corner on the 20th minute mark. It beat Town goalkeeper Joe Wilton, one of two Railway dual-signed regulars playing for the Football League newcomers.

Josh Falkingham’s Town upped the ante right at the start of the second half. Aaron Haswell hit the side-netting before the visitors were awarded a penalty. The signs that it was going to be Railway’s night were there when goalkeeper Jamie Hassall pulled off a terrific save.

Railway had to hold their nerve as Town surged forward late-on to claim an equaliser.

They held on, but the game did end on a low note as experienced new signing Aodhan Brownlee went off injured which looked bad from the side.
