Handsworth return ‘home with bang, while Ammers show ruthless side

Handsworth’s return ‘home’ to Olivers’ Mount was a total success as Russ Eagle’s men romped to a 5-1 victory over Athersley Rec.

Just under 250 attended the emotional night as Handsworth’s first team played their first competitive at Olivers’ in eight years.

It was certainly a night to remember as Marley Grant, Sam Smith, Bailey Hobson and Leon Howarth had the points sown up for the Ambers by half-time.

Lee Garside reduced the deficit in the second half, but Callum Walton’s last minute added the fifth for Handsworth.

Casey Stewart and Ash Flynn scored twice as Yorkshire Amateur showed their ruthless side by annihilating Bottesford 7-1 away from home.

The Ammers had demolished their hosts by half-time by holding a four-goal lead. Daniel Naidole headed home Stewart’s cross in the third minute to set the wheels in motions.

Man of the moment Roy Fogarty, Fernando Moke and Stewart increased the lead by half-time.

Bottesford scored straight after the break, but the Ammers had the last word with Stewart netting again and Flynn scoring twice.

In Division One, five goals were scored in the opening 15 minutes as Nostell Miners Welfare went down 4-2 at Brigg Town. Brigg scored in the 2nd, 4th and 7th minutes – with a Brett Smith penalty mixed in for Nostell. Nathan Hawkhead reduced the deficit even further in the 15th minute, but Nostell were unable to claim a point.

Micah Parsons fired Rossington Main ahead at Winterton Rangers, but they lost 3-1.
