Grant scores 50-yard volley as Brighouse concede 99th minute equaliser

NPL Division One North West

Josh Grant scored a 50-yard volley as ten man Brighouse Town conceded a 99th minute equaliser in the epic 3-3 draw with Runcorn Linnets.

The quite incredible contest saw it spring to life after the half-hour mark and never look back.

Brighouse’s Shiraz Khan was sent off in the 34th minute, but instead of the game going into Runcorn’s favour, Brighouse quickly established a two-goal-lead.

Grant’s through ball supplied Eddie Church who shot into the bottom corner.

Grant then enjoyed his ‘greatest moment of his career’ when the Runcorn’s goalkeeper’s clearance reached him on the halfway line. The former Farsley man literally volleyed it and it flew into the net without bouncing before the goal-line – absolutely sensational.

Brighouse went further ahead after the break as Tom Haigh supplied Church for his second.

The unlikely Runcorn comeback then started from Kurt Sherlock’s penalty.

An injury to the referee and subsequent search for a new assistant massively helped Runcorn because of the added time.

In the fifth minute of added time, Josh Brizell closed the gap following a fantastic shot from 25 yards out. Then in the ninth minute of stoppage time, a second Sherlock penalty denied Brighouse victory.
