Danny Forrest is content with Silsden’s start to the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season.
Silsden have won two out of their opening five games – the 3-2 win over Goole AFC and the dramatic 4-3 defeat of Knaresborough Town.
“Six points out of a possible 15, we would have liked more points, but I can see an identity shaping and the new players getting settled,” Forrest told Non League Yorkshire.
“We deserved more from the Garforth game. We deserved more from the Maltby game, but hopefully we’ll learn from that.
“We maybe got out of jail with the Knaresborough game a little bit. But we haven’t got what we deserved in other games. It balances itself out.
“I said to the lads at half-time when we were 3-0 up (against Knaresborough), ‘you’re not in this position very often so keep it tight and weather the storm in the first ten minutes’. All of a sudden it was 3-3 with 20 minutes to go.
“We’ve not had trouble scoring goals, we’ve just had trouble keeping them out at the other end. But against Maltby I thought we limited them after the first 15 minutes.”
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Maltby Main is their last game until the visit to Albion Sports next Wednesday.
The ten day break plan was planned and unrelated to Covid issues. It is fairly bizarre given the need to get as many games played as soon as possible.
Forrest admits he finds the breather odd and he just hopes the campaign is not interrupted.
“We’re already one or two games behind some teams so it is a strange one so I don’t know what’s happened there,” he said.
“As we always do we’ll deal with what’s thrown in front of us.
“It is hard to say whether we will see any disruption. I read a lot of things and people have all got their own opinion on it. I just take things as they come.
“Being stuck at home (working from home) for long periods, I’ve absolutely loved being back managing. It does mean a lot to me anyway, but it is a chance to get out of the house and mix socially.
“Safety is always going to come first and whatever guidelines or restrictions come along I will support hugely if it is going to make everyone safer, but if we can carry on playing football I’d to like to play football.”

NLY Community Sport, run by James Grayson and Connor Rollinson, has always had combatting social isolation at the top of our objectives when running our Disability Football teams. As we slowly return to ‘action’, our work will play an important role in reintroducing our players, who have disabilities and learning difficulties, back into society.
We have six teams, a mixture of Junior and Adult teams – Nostell MW DFC, Pontefract Pirates, Selby Disability Football Club and the South Yorkshire Superheroes (Barnsley) – across Yorkshire.
We have enjoyed great success over the past three years. Several of our players have represented Mencap GB in Geneva, including Billy Hobson from Selby and Greg Smith, whose story is quite inspiring.
