Jimmy Eyles sent Emley to the top of the table after his late winner broke Hall Road Rangers’ fine resistance in the 2-1 win at the Welfare Ground.

Hall Road gave Emley a fright after taking the lead six minutes into the second half. Leon Sewell’s Rangers made a break forward and after a shot was saved by goalkeeper Gary Stevens pounced on the rebound.

Emley responded straightaway. Richard Tracey’s men piled the pressure on with two efforts and it led to a scramble from which Aiden Savory managed to score.

With a draw looming, Emley grabbed the points at the death. Marcus Haydock and Kane Reece did the hard work down the right and the ball was played across the box to Eyles who crashed a shot into the net.

The three points sent Emley to the top as previously unbeaten leaders Campion lost 2-0 at home to North Ferriby.

Ferriby struck the first blow on the half-hour mark. Lawrence McKay’s cross was met by the leaping figure of Danny East. The header was saved, but ex-Bradford (Park Avenue) striker Tom Corner was on hand to score.

Iwan Heeley sealed the victory with a bullet header from wing wizard Danny Buttle’s corner in the last ten minutes.

The result keeps Ferriby in fourth, but two points behind now second-placed Campion and level on points with Brigg Town who have a superior goals difference.
