A double from Mark Ferguson guided Glasshoughton Welfare to their first victory of the season at the eighth attempt.

Welfare comfortably won 4-0 at Dronfield Town – ironically the scene of their long-awaited opening win of last season so clearly Darren Holmes and Lee Vigars love their trips there.

A shot from distance on the half-hour mark set Glasshoughton on their way. Ferguson got that and new signing Wayne Hughes doubled lead with a close tap-in soon after.

Glasshoughton twice hit the bar – once in the first half from 2012 legend Josh Corbett and in the second from marquee signing Nathan Perks.

Perks provided the assist for the third and the fourth in the last ten minutes. He played the pass for Ferguson before doing the same for Connor McLauclan.

Manager-less Armthorpe Welfare took the lead against Retford after Adam Baskerville struck in the first half.

The lead lasted barely longer than a minute as Haydan Goddard got the better of Tyler Walker to send a dangerous cross across the face of goal where Zac Casburn was on hand to stab the ball in.

Baskerville and Luke Williams combined for the latter to shoot wide on 39 minutes but Welfare’s task got harder a minute later as Goddard sent Geno Robinson clear and he was brought down by goalkeeper Aiden Smith as he charged out of his box to try and clear. Smith received his marching orders, with outfield player James Arnold taking over in goal.

Armthorpe held out until the 51st minute when Retford took the lead. Further goals came in the 61st and 90th minutes.

Parkgate were undone by a late goal in another humdinger which they lost 4-3 to Brigg Town.

Parkgate, whose goal-scorers with Zakaria Khalifa, Brandon Bagley and Matthew Crookes, led 2-0 at one stage.
