Grassroots football scheduled to return from 29th March

Grassroots football is scheduled to return from the 29th March, the prime minister Boris Johnson has announced.

It remains unclear what the news means for Non League clubs, but at the very minimum clubs should be able to train again.

The FA are due to meet this week to continue discussions about what to do with the 2020/21 season for Steps 3 to 6 clubs. With Step 2 being made null and void and the fact March is now officially written off, the campaign’s future looks in grave doubt. With clubhouses also set to be shut beyond March, that places further doubt on the chances of the season recommencing.

The amount of games some clubs still have to play across all Step 3 to 6 leagues remains extreme and even an extension to the end of June is unlikely to be long enough for all fixtures to be completed.

Potentially Step 7 clubs could restart their seasons in April as clubhouses and tea-bars do not have the level of importance as they do at Steps 3 to 6.
