Ammers make major signing in Ainge

New Yorkshire Amateur defender Simon Ainge with joint managers Neil Sibson and Craig Ogilvie

Yorkshire Amateur have made another major signing in the shape of former Luton Town, Guiseley, Harrogate Town and FC Halifax Town centre-half Simon Ainge.

The ex-Bradford City youngster follows goalkeeper Jon Stewart through the door at Bracken Edge and further sets the tone as to what the Ammers want to achieve when the 2021/22 season kicks off.

You could argue that because of Ainge’s pedigree, his capture is one of the biggest so far in the club’s history.

He can also play upfront. During his time with Harrogate, Simon Weaver converted him into a striker and he was rewarded as Ainge scored 25 times for the then-National North outfit.

Ainge’s most recent club was Gainsborough Trinity.

The Ammers confirmed this week that they have officially applied to move up to the Northern Premier League after being invited to do so by the FA, along with Liversedge and Bridlington Town.
