Covid issues intensify with multiple friendly cancellations

Selby’s game at Goole is off while Knaresborough boss Rob Hunter expects widespread problems

Loads of friendlies have been cancelled as rising cases of covid-19 continue to cause problems for Non League clubs.

The issues intensity the fears that the start to the new Toolstation NCEL season will be disrupted – as first raised by Knaresborough Town manager Rob Hunter last week.

Selby Town have had to postpone their Eric Lawton Cup battle with Goole AFC – their second cancellation of pre-season due to covid-19.

Yorkshire Amateur’s home clash with Harrogate Railway is off as the visitors have an issue.

Barton Town’s friendly with Rossington is off, as is Hallam’s trip to Kiveton Miners Welfare who have had an outbreak within their camp.

Hallam will now head to Frickley Athletic on Saturday as Dave Frecklington’s men were due to face Rotherham United. However, the League One side have pulled out because of a covid outbreak.

Despite the unlocking of the economy next Monday and the removable of covid capacity limits, the problems are only going to get worse if the government’s estimates for daily cases is correct.
