Flynn scores injury-time winner for Golcar

North West Counties League Division One North Round-Up

Golcar United striker Ash Flynn

Ash Flynn’s added time time winner broke Steeton’s hearts and propelled promotion-chasing Golcar United to a 2-1 victory at Marley Stadium.

Roy Mason’s Steeton had bravely pushed one of the strongest sides in the league and had even taken the lead in the first half after surviving heavy pressure.

Their goalkeeper George Bristol had made some wonderful saves and his team-mates rewarded him when Ben Wignall converted Luke Baldwin’s cross.

A Flynn penalty close to half-time got Golcar back into it.

The second half saw both teams have chances but it wasn’t until deep into injury-time when the drama came.

Golcar hit Steeton on the counter attack and the move ended with Alex Hallam crossing for fellow ex-Emley man Flynn to head home.

The story wasn’t over there as Golcar goalkeeper Graham McLachlan was sent off after the final whistle – although it is believed to have been a case of mistaken identity.

Ilkley Town were beaten 3-1 by Holker Old Boys at home.

Thomas Smith got Ilkley’s goal from the penalty spot.

Aidan Kirby’s penalty gave Campion real hope of upsetting the applecart at title favourites Bury AFC.

Unfortunately Greg Daniels equalised and quite predictably Tom Greaves secured a 2-1 win for Bury.
