Roebuck keeps Handsworth’s good form going

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division Round-Up

Handsworth hero Tom Roebuck

Tom Roebuck’s hour mark goal was the difference as Handsworth overcame in-form Garforth Town in the narrow 3-2 victory at Olivers Mount.

That’s now three wins in four league matches and under-lines how much of a good job assistant bosses Jason Dodsworth and Aiden Spowage are doing whilst they stand in for Russ Eagle while he recovers from an operation.

You can imagine Dodsworth bounding down the stairs at a very quick speed at 6.30am this morning like an over-excited kid on Christmas Day to grab his technological device to read the glowing reviews about Handsworth.

The night started badly for Handsworth as lightening quick forward James Burgess put Garforth ahead in the fifth minute.

Handsworth responded straightaway – Nana Nyarko’s long throw hit visiting defender Jamie Barkway and fell into his own net.

Recent signing Jordan Lonchar gave Handsworth the lead towards the interval with a simple finish after poor defending from Garforth.

The Miners quickly cancelled out as Dan Coupland netted.

In the end Roebeck’s goal from a Handsworth corner, the former Hallam defender made himself the hero – consigning Garforth to their first league defeat of the campaign.

In the other two games, Albion Sports and Thackley suffered defeats.

Albion Sports lost 1-0 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare.

Thackley were beaten 4-0 at Winterton Rangers.
