Scott Ruthven’s 50th league goal for Stocksbridge Park Steels gave Lee Thompson his first win as interim boss and the club’s first three points of the campaign.

The strike on stroke of half-time secured the 3-2 victory over Pickering Town at Bracken Moor.

The Steels had to show huge character to turn the game around during the frantic first half.

Lewis Whitham’s opener for Stocksbridge was overturned by Jackson Jowett’s close range effort.

A header from Pikes captain Wayne Brooksby put the visitors ahead.

Ross Goodwin scored from distance to equalise before Ruthven had the last word with a volley.
