Athersley Rec can start believing in miracles after Jimmy Whitehead’s men staged an astonishing victory in the derby clash at Penistone Church.
Josh Brown was the hero with the winner in the 66th minute.
Athersley also had their goalkeeper to thank after two great saves in the closing stages.
Nobody has given Athersley a chance of staying up but the win over one of the sides who were hoping to mount a promotion bid must give them huge belief.
The first victory of the campaign lifts them off the bottom of the table.
The derby clash was Whitehead’s second game in permanent charge since replacing Shane Kelsey.
