Selby still in good position – Fox

Selby Town manager Christian Fox

Christian Fox says sixth-placed Selby Town have no reason to be concerned just yet about falling slightly away from the top four.

The midweek 4-2 defeat to Glasshoughton Welfare has left them five points behind second-placed unstoppable Hallam and eight behind leaders Brigg Town.

But Fox does admit that ideally promotion-chasing Selby need to return to winning ways when they leave Yorkshire and head into Nottingham to play Ollerton Town.

“It is still early days, (when interviewed) we’re not even in October yet,” Fox told Non League Yorkshire.

“Teams will put runs together and teams will drop points – that’s the nature of the league.

“You have to concentrate on yourselves and see how many wins you can get.

“There’s no point getting downhearted in September, there’s a lot of games to go.

“What we need to do is bounce back and make sure we put things right and try to put a run together.

“We have a lost a bit of ground because of the Worsbrough abandonment.

“Although I’m not saying we would have won it, if we had won that night I think we would have gone top.

“That shows how close it is (at the top).”

The Glasshoughton defeat was their second loss in the league this season and Fox was unimpressed with his side.

“It was really disappointing,” he said.

“I thought we started really well in the first 15 minutes but that was literally it – 15 minutes of really good play.

“We dwindled out and we weren’t good enough.

“No matter who you play in this league, if you’re not at it you give teams a chance.

“Fair play to Glasshoughton they deserved the win.”
