Gibbons treble knocks Stocksbridge out of Senior Cup

Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Round-Up

Rossington Main hat-trick hero Myron Gibbons

Myron Gibbons’ late hat-trick was crucial as Rossington Main pulled off incredible comeback to defeat higher league Stocksbridge Park Steels in the second round tie.

Rossington were dead and buried after an hour as Michael Trench had put the Steels in full control with a 2-0 lead.

A first half header broke the deadlock and a finish at the far-post seemingly booked their place in the next round of the competition which Ian Richards was very keen to win.

However, that’s when things went pear-shaped.

Tyla Bell dragged Rossington back into it during an unbelievable seven-minute spell.

A free kick allowed Rossington to find Gibbson who equalised.

A penalty after Robert Ludlham’s foul then saw Gibbons put Rossington in front.

As Stocksbridge pushed for an equaliser, Rossington caught them out on the break and recent signing Gibbons completed his hat-trick.

The red mist descended: Rikki Paylor was sent off after just ten minutes of Handsworth’s Senior Cup win at Sheffield FC

Despite playing with ten for 81 minutes, In-form Handsworth impressively blew Sheffield FC away in a 3-2 upset victory in Dronfield.

Rikki Paylor saw red in the ninth minute but his departure Handsworth only served to inspire Jason Dodsworth and Aiden Spowage’s men.

James Oliver put Handsworth put ahead before half-time.

Kane Reece increased Handsworth’s lead on the hour.

Even Marc Newsham’s goal back for Sheffield didn’t stop the Ambers in their tracks as Mitch Dunne netted against his old club.

Newsham did score again, from the penalty spot, in the final few minutes but it was too late to prevent an upset.

New Emley striker Joe Jagger

Joe Jagger’s late header from a corner enabled young Emley AFC to snatch a 2-1 victory against Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

The scores had been level as Jay Davis had cancelled out Charlie Smith’s scrambled opener for Emley.
