Swinton’s unbeaten run brutally ended by Stocksbridge

Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Midweek Round-Up

Action from Dodworth 1-3 Swinton in June

Stocksbridge Park Steels brutally stripped ten man Premier Division leaders Swinton Athletic of their invincibility cloak in an astonishing 5-0 victory at Bracken Moor.

The result ends Swinton’s magnificent run of over two years without a league defeat and reignites the title race which was threatening to become a one horse race.

Swinton last lost in the Premier Division in April 2019 when Wombwell Main put them to the sword.

Two early goals from Martel Daswell and Luke Webster laid the platform for Stocksbridge.

Swinton responded with chances from Justin Greenwood and Danny Barlow but the sending off of Craig Mitchell due to his protests over a penalty decision, rendered a comeback mission impossible.

The Steels’ Josh Wain converted the penalty and went into the break three goals to the good.

Charlie Cope and Webster finished the job in the second half.

Wakefield AFC double goal-scorer Billy Mole

Wakefield AFC were too strong for revitalised North Gawber in the 4-0 victory in Featherstone.

Ex-Nostell Miners Welfare star Billy Mole scored twice for Wakefield.

Josh Lockwood and Jake Morrison added the extras.
