Brighouse win on penalties after playing with ten men for 87 minutes

Brighouse Town progressed into the second round of the West Riding County Cup after winning 5-4 penalties after drawing 1-1 in normal time against Knaresborough Town despite playing with ten men for 87 minutes.

Brighouse, who had under 17s goalkeeper Charlie English in goal, had Alex O’Connor sent off in the third minute following a challenge on Phil Milsom.

Knaresborough then took full advantage of their numerical advantage as Sean Hunter laid the pass to Craig Ramplin who shot home.

Brighouse equalised ten minutes into the second half.

Javelle Clarke crossed into the penalty area and Zeph Thomas was on hand to score.

Hunter had a chance to win it for Knaresborough while their goalkeeper Jamie Hassall made two good saves before the final whistle.

Tom Dugdale, Ben Parkes, Brad Walker and Ewan Gregson scored for the visitors in the shootout but Hunter’s spot kick hit the post.

Thomas, Josh Grant, Jack Boyle, Mossimo Cicarelli and Marshall Getty were pitch perfect for Brighouse.
