Darren Young feels he has strengthened his Dodworth Miners Welfare squad with the signing of former Worsbrough Bridge striker Matt Jacobs.
Jacobs, who has played with several of the Dodworth players before, joins from High Green Villa.
Young has been trying to land a left-back and a striker – and ultimately he has been successful on one front.
“We have been trying to get him for a while,” Young told Non League Yorkshire.
“He scored against us four or five times and I think he offers us a different attacking option.
“We can play a few different ways but sometimes (the ball) comes back at us too quick in some games.
“What he allows us to have is a platform upfront and he’ll occupy the centre-halves and allow our flair players to get in behind.
“He’s a big signing for us and I’m really happy to get him.
“I think we have really good attacking options.
“Kai Hancock is getting fitter and fitter every week.
“Liam (Owen), Jack (Owen) and Calan (Rollinson) are scoring goals and I think (Jacobs) make them better players because he’ll be a focal point.”
Finding a left-back has been more problematic and Young has been on the lookout for months – since James Young went back to Penistone Church.
“I am happy with the squad but we do need an out-an-out left-back because we have put Oli Stokes in there.
“He’s done really well but he’s more of a forward player.
“Sam Severn has been there and he’s a centre-half.
“We lost Danny (Barlow) and James Young from last year.
“We’ve replaced Danny upfront but James Young still needs to be replaced and left-backs are really hard to find and we’re still on the search.”
