Hemsworth have to win remaining games to have chance of survival – Kelsey

Time is running out for Shane Kelsey’s Hemsworth Miners Welfare in their bid to avoid relegation

Shane Kelsey says the odds are stacked against Hemsworth Miners Welfare in their great escape bid.

Time is running out for Hemsworth as they only have five games to go while third-bottom Albion Sports have nine.

Hemsworth simply have to win all five and hope Albion pick up less than 13 points out of a possible 27.

The Wells play Emley, Albion and Athersley Rec in their next three matches and Kelsey says the objective is simple.

“We have to go out and blow them away,” Kelsey told Non League Yorkshire.

“We have to take maximum points.

“Emley is a derby and it is hard as it comes.

“Athersley are scrapping for their lives and they’ll want one over us.

“We have to win every game and that was the situation a week ago before we played Penistone.

“We can’t go into each game with the mindset of something else.

“We’re in other people’s hands because unfortunately with the games-in-hand Albion have, they can put more points on the board than we can.

“Destiny isn’t in our own hands.

“All Albion have to do is win a couple of games and avoid defeat against us.

“It is going to be some escape if we get out of it and I’m honest to say that.

“If you find yourselves in this situation at this stage of the season it is because you simply haven’t been good enough.”

Many expected Hemsworth to canter to safety after the return of club favourites such as Nash Connolly, Cameron Clark, Seon Ripley and Eddie Cass.

But it hasn’t worked.

“It is rather frustrating because the squad we have got now is arguably an excellent one,” Kelsey added.

“I’ve no doubt about it that if we had this current crop when I first took over then we wouldn’t be sat here talking about relegation.”
